Childbirth Classes
Childbirth education is an important step in preparing for a natural birthing center experience. In the previous generation, many people referred to these birthing classes generally as “Lamaze classes Miami” (A nod to the most well-known brand of classes). In today’s culture, few people are taught while growing up about the normal process of birth and the sensations experienced during labor. Even fewer have witnessed childbirth in person prior to becoming pregnant themselves. The resulting lack of knowledge and experience can leave people feeling a bit at a loss when labor begins, and uncertain as to whether things are “normal” or not. In some situations, this causes labor to be experienced as “traumatic,” even when everything is normal, simply because parents do not understand what is happening. The solution? Birthing classes!

Childbirth Education in a Previous Pregnancy
If you have already had childbirth education with previous children, you might not feel the need to take more pregnancy classes. This is okay! Everyone’s needs are different. However, there are some reasons people choose to take birthing classes with their 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th pregnancies. Some of these reasons include:
Wanting to “refresh” your memory on coping techniques and labor comfort measures
First time planning a natural childbirth, and wanting to prepare for a new kind of birth experience
First time planning to birth outside of the hospital, and wanting more information to prepare
Wanting to connect with other local families who are also pregnant
Alternative Options
For some people, schedule constraints can be a barrier to getting birthing classes. Let your Miami midwife know if this is a concern for you. Some families choose to prepare for birth via self-education (reading books, watching videos, etc), and still, others choose to take online birthing classes.
While self-education can sometimes be helpful, it may not be sufficient if you do not have access to quality sources that align with the type of birth experience you are seeking. Below is a list of great books to get you started (check them out on Amazon or at your local library):
